2013 Credit Conference Highlights

Mid America Cooperative Education, Inc. presented its Eighth Annual Credit Conference on October 17-18, 2013 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The conference attracted 30 participants from the states of Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The conference offered much insight into several specific topics:

1)  The larger farmer is seeking a relationship with their suppliers and expects them to understand their operation.  The cooperative’s management needs to be onboard with serving their needs.

2)  As grain prices soften, the suppliers of inputs and credit anticipate their management ability will be tested.  Don’t be the last vendor to understand critical financial information about your member/owner.

3)  Use your credit application to list all of your co-op’s credit needs.  Share this information with your sales personnel to serve your member/owners’ anticipated and unanticipated needs.

4)  Secondary financing for farmers has allowed cooperative input suppliers to spread their risk, while maintaining working capital needs.

5)  Soybean production is anticipated to grow in 2014, as corn stocks are replenished and corn prices soften.
